This is what I do! I discovered audio tech in high school, and over 20 years later I’m still at it.

Rates

Recording at 7 Hills: $550/day, $75/hr

I’m available for studio recording work on albums and singles; sometimes live or location recording.

Process

I keep organized, record as much as possible, and stay flexible as songs and albums evolve. An album can be recorded quickly in a couple days or developed in stages, over a longer timeline.

When I get involved mid-project, I pay extra attention labeling and clarity for the next engineer.

studios

I manage 7 Hills Studio, so it’s familiar and full of my own gear. It’s where I do most of my recording, and the space can handle anything smaller than a large ensemble.

On occasion, I also record in other studios. I’ve worked in many, many Seattle studios, and more along the west coast.

Production & Pre-production

Taking on a production role usually involves guiding a record from beginning to end.

When developing a set of songs into an album, I like to hear demos or see a performance, then discuss. It’s worth considering tempo, studio space & sound, instrumental tones, vocal delivery, song arrangement, and anything else important.

My approach is to capture live performances, then edit and overdub as needed. I like recordings that sound textured and organic, whether it’s a band playing together or a song programmed layer by layer.

“Deliverables”

At the end of a recording session, I’ll provide a rough mix of each song and the Pro Tools session files (you’ll need a USB drive for storage).

If another engineer is mixing or continuing with overdubs, I’m happy to communicate with them for a smooth handoff.
